Timber Ceiling Recoat, Wānaka

Faded timber bathroom ceilings in an all-timber Wānaka interior, identified the mystery coating on site and recoated with three coats of clear satin.

This Wānaka home is timber right through, walls and ceilings. Years of shower steam had worn the clear coating on the bathroom ceilings, leaving dull chalky patches, and nobody knew what product was on there.

A couple of quick on-site tests (a light sand and a turps rag) told us it was a cured waterborne clear, safe to go over with a water-based product. Each ceiling got a clean, a light sand and three coats of Resene Aquaclear satin. The extra coat is cheap insurance in a steamy bathroom, and the timber now looks like itself again with an even satin sheen.
